Our processing engineers qualify molds with resins specified to meet our customer’s criteria for performance and aesthetics. This step establishes ideal settings yielding the most efficient process and highest quality parts.

• Through consultations with our customers, our team will recommend the most appropriate resins aligned with customer requirements.
• Lombardi’s wealth of experience includes molding advanced resins such as: Surlyn, Eastman Co-Polyesters, Tenite, Lexan, Thermoplastic Elastomerics, & Post Consumer Recycled Resin (ISCC+ Certified).

With the mold assembled in the press, plastic pellets are introduced and heated to a molten state vis-à-vis frictional heat plus temperature controls. Molten plastic is injected under high pressure filling the cavity and taking on the shape of the mold. With rapid cooling the material solidifies to form the final plastic part.

• Establishing the ideal settings for the injection molding process are dependent upon the prior steps we have taken during Design & Development and Custom Mold Building phases.
• Each mold is designed to run in a press with a specified amount of clamping force. Lombardi offers presses from 120 to 600 tons of clamp force pressure.

After the plastic part has cooled and solidified, the mold opens, and the newly formed part is ejected from the mold. This step may involve additional processes such as unscrewing or collapsing cores, automatic de-gating, and robotic retrieval.

• Lombardi offers both manual and robotic assembly of finished parts.
• Molded parts can be automatically decorated or transferred to a designated zone for secondary processes.
